Butler won the leading role in the 2010 thriller about rape and revenge I Spit on Your Grave. This is a re-make from 1978 of the beloved classic of the same name. Although initially sceptical about the nakedness of the film and its violence, the film's powerful female character and strong development convinced her to take on the role. Butler starred in Jennifer Hills as a novelist brutally gang-raped at a cabin while traveling. Steven R. Monroe, the director of the film announced it on the 8th October 2010. The film was released in November 2011. Butler as well as Estella Warren started filming the psychological thriller The Stranger Within in Mallorca the Spanish island of Mallorca. The film was also scheduled for shooting in Copenhagen Denmark and New York City.She became part of the independent feature Treachery featuring Michael Biehn which began filming in Los Angeles in June 2012.
